We have had a very annoying leak in one of the downstairs rooms for quite some time now. We originally thought it might have been the roof but during the last deluge we braved it out in the rain and tracked it down to the terrace. We had this re-laid a few years ago and have found that usually within a period of about 1 and a half hours of a downpour, whether it stops or not, it starts to drip and recently it has got much worse. We have had a couple of builders come round and quotes have come in at about 2-2500 euros. Eventually it stops raining and everything dries out but as I said, it has got much now and we decided it was time to put paid to this problem, so I sent hubbie off to Aim. He told me that unlike the big DIY superstores in the UK that are staffed by youngsters with very little knowledge of the building trade or his limited knowledge of DIY in Spanish, he was delighted to find all the staff at Aim in Elviria had vast knowledge and experience in the building trade. So he popped in for a chat and explainedour problem and this is what happened. He bought a bag of special, quick drying cement which is specially made for regrouting. He bought some of the famous Sandtex exterior paint. He was so proud to relate to me again the story of his old childhood house which was painted in 1975 with this paint and has not needed repainting since and also the Sandtex lighthouse ad that he rememebered from his youth (do I really need that hearing test?) and some special sealant. We followed Aims instructions to the letter. We removed any loose grout, mixed up the special into a bucket, re-grouted, painted the walls with one coat of Sandtex and when it was dry, painted the clear sealant over the complete terrace and up 2 feet high from the ground all around the walls. The job was finished on Sunday and we had heavy rain on Sunday night and again on Tuesday night and guess what, not a drop. I would like to thank John and all the team at AIM. He has saved us a fortune. I would also like to thank the two ladies who braved the bracing cold to try this out for us. So, if you have got any DIY needs or if you are a tradesman, pop in to Aim. They have got everything and of course the knowledge as well. We are pleased to put the buckets and saucepans away now....
